The manager of a plant nursery bought 120 lb of soil to use for potting plants. The manager can put 5 lb into each of the small pots and 12 lb into each of the large pots. The manager made a sketch to show the line representing the different combinations of pots that can be used. The x-axis represented the number of small pots and the y-axis represented the number of large pots. The manager labeled only the intercepts. Which points did the manager label? (0, 10) and (24, 0) (0, 24) and (10, 0) (0, 5) and (12, 0) (0, 12) and (5, 0)

did you copy my comments from last time?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You tell me: what do 5x and 12 y represent?

OpenStudy (newwar):

Sorry, I closed your question by mistake. please repost it. Let x represent the number of small pots, and y the number of large pots. Then the weight of the soil that goes into small pots is 5x and that into large posts is 12 y. What is the sum of 5x and 12 y? See the problem statement.

OpenStudy (newwar):

do you want me to add them

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Please see whether or not you can follow my argument (above) and / or answer my question.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Not until you've explained what 5x and 12 y represent and what their sum is.
