Big-b: Unfortunately, your discussion here sounds like you're making a big game out of this question in the hope that someone will answer it for you. I have seen zero effort on your part to translate the phrase into an equation, and none to answer skullpatrol's valid questions to you. In this case I'll need to ask you to find some printed examples in your textbook or online reading materials BEFORE you return here. share what you've found, please, and then skullpatrol and I will go from there.

These can be pretty difficult to understand. And to follow along can be tricky as well. After reading the description, try to pick out easy things. For example, these operations are even to 7. 7 = five times the sum of a number and 4 pay attention to the words. sum means what? the result of addition. 7 = five times n + 4, since we dont know the other number. five times = five multiplied by blah blah blah. 7=5(n+4) 5(n+4) = 7

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Indeed, translating words into symbols is a skill that needs to be worked at :-)

OpenStudy (lyss):

It's a very significant ability, as you won't always have things written out for you. You need to understand what is being said and be able to imagine it.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

As they say, math has its own symbolic language.
