What does it mean to be American?
Personally, I don't think there is such a thing as "american". We are known as the nation of immigrants. We all immigrated from somewhere. As a person from Indian would be called Indian... what would one born in U.S to an Indian family called? American? Bit confusing if you ask me.
To me, I only identify as being "American" because I reside in the continent known as North America. But my parents are hispanic and asian, respectively. Therefore, those are my ethnicities and also where I truly base my personal identity
they would be called american with indian background im guessing because even though thats where they are from (their parents are from) . They were born in America.
American Indians currently aren't immigrants.
This is why people who are born into America can be called "Hispanic-Amerian" or "Asian-Amerian" or even "african-american" to show their races and corresponding identitites
*identities
We did not all necessarily immigrate from somewhere.
@sweetburger but our ancestors mostly did. Unless you were the indigenous, original population that originally resided within the Americas
Read above comment I stated that.
I have so much to say but I don't exactly know how to go about it.
I was just mentioning the majority of the American nationality in this modern day and age @sweetburger
are we all native Americans? or are we what the first "Americans" who came here are? they were mostly European. So no one is really American.
In terms of nationality, we are all Americans as long as we have our citizenship here
that link lol
In regards to the link that I posted, your ethnicity is what you are on a biological level. I'm white. Others are of varying skin tones. My Nationality is American because I'm from the USA. Hence, "African-American" or "Native American".
yup.
^^
Wait lol it makes sense now laughing out loud X'D
for @pooja195 's example, you would be called and Indian-Amerian then. Because your nationality is now American, but your ethnicity is most definitely Indian
LOL I'm glad it makes sense now, dear :')
every "white" person in America (born in America) is considered white Americans not even mentioning their ethnicity
no that sounded horrible tbh
