let me know if this helps or not https://i.ytimg.com/vi/4Q70ZHVFKPc/maxresdefault.jpg

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

I don't get why it says negative numbers if the chart isn't negative

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Example: Point B is at (1,2) Using the rule (link I posted), you would swap x and y to get (2,1). Then change the first coordinate to get (-2,1) So B = (1,2) B' = (-2,1)

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

I don't know why but whenever someone explains something to me my brain doesn't absorb it at all :(

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

@madisonthedoll do you agree that point B is at (1,2) ?

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

yes

OpenStudy (itrymath):

Reflection over x-axis - (x,y) to (x,-y) Reflection over y-axis - (x,y) to (-x,y) Reflection y=x - (x,y) to (y,x) Rotation 90 degrees counter clockwise (x,y) to (-y,x)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

So we swap the coordinates to get (2,1) with me so far?

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

yes!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

then the last step we do is change the +2 to -2 so that's why (2,1) turns into (-2,1)

OpenStudy (itrymath):

Rotation 90 degrees clockwise - (x,y) to (y,-x) rotation 180 degrees - (x,y) to (-x,-y)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

If you rotate (1,2) ninety degrees around the origin then you land on (-2,1)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ninety degrees counter-clockwise

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

I'm following

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Give it a try with the point (3,1)

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

flip it 90 degreees?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

rotate it 90 degrees using the rule I posted above

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

what rule :D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

this one https://i.ytimg.com/vi/4Q70ZHVFKPc/maxresdefault.jpg

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

rule: step 1) swap x and y step 2) change the sign of the first coordinate

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

how does one rotate something 90 degrees

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

let me know if this helps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-Fr8LLSi_I

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

@itrymath

OpenStudy (itrymath):

Okay, you see where Point B is? Give me the coordinates

OpenStudy (itrymath):

Well they are (1,2)

OpenStudy (itrymath):

basically all you do is (x,y) --> (-y,x)

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

ohh

OpenStudy (itrymath):

so we literally change the places of them from the orignal point and add a negative to y

OpenStudy (itrymath):

so (-2,1)

OpenStudy (itrymath):

Simple and you do that with the rest

OpenStudy (itrymath):

Can you do "D" for me

OpenStudy (itrymath):

I'm having trouble figuring it out lmao

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

http://s18.postimg.org/y7xobbxq1/Capture.jpg so this is the answer? why couldn't ppl explain it that way before xD

OpenStudy (itrymath):

Yup, looks fine and they try explaining it and they succeed at it but they are like master minds in this stuff im just learning it as well so its easier for me to teach you than a professor SOMETIMES
