assume that all trees are green. does this statement mean that an oak tree must be green? explain why or why not

OpenStudy (moldybubblegum11):

Yes because all trees will be green.

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

does this statement mean that anything green must be a tree?

OpenStudy (moldybubblegum11):

that includes coco, almond, coconut, pistachio, papaya... im hungry.

OpenStudy (moldybubblegum11):

no, it just means that all trees must be green.

OpenStudy (moldybubblegum11):

anyone else hungry?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

`assume that all trees are green` means "if an object is a tree, then the object is green" the opposite is not true. If an object is green, then it may not be a tree (example: grass)

OpenStudy (madisonthedoll):

are the statements "all trees are green" and "all green things are trees" saying the same thing? explain why or why not

OpenStudy (moldybubblegum11):

thats a great way to explain it,

OpenStudy (sshayer):

no,assume your shirt is green. Is it a tree?

OpenStudy (moldybubblegum11):

its not because it said "all trees are green" if everything was green it would be a tree. Every person, building, car and street.

OpenStudy (moldybubblegum11):

The statement is just talking about trees.

OpenStudy (moldybubblegum11):

oh, a coconut flavored papaya covered in chocolate.

OpenStudy (moldybubblegum11):

:D
