QUESTION IS IN THE SCREENSHOT

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

@callielovesyhuu @Skelecog_Supervisor

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Well to be honest I am not too sure so do not take my word strongly. However -7/30 = 0.23 and -7/6 + -5/6 = 2 which is the closest however I am still working with all the other equations.

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

I worded that wrong. Its far off aha.

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

1/5 + -5/6 = -0.63 which is getting closer..

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

1/5 + -3/5 = -0.4 .... -.-

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

This is all experimenting with addition of fractions.

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

The answer is -3/5 + 5/6

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

\[\frac{ -3 * 6 }{ 30 } + \frac{ 5 * 5 }{ 30 }\] Denominators are equal so you combine the fractions \[\frac{ -3 * 6 + 5 * 5 }{ 30 }\] Now we multiply the numbers -18 + 5 * 5 - 18 + 25 = 7 Denom is 30 so 7/30

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Hope this helped! @alayrhi

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

By the way I found the LCD or least common denominator by multiplying 5 by 6 which equals 30

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Which proceeds to adding the fractions based on the LCD

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

As shown above :D

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

Thank you :D

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Sure thing.

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

Could you help with one more?

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Is it the same thing?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

the problem ask for -7/30 but follow the process given by @DivineSolar

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

The answer is 1/2 right?

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Oh yeah just reverse what I had there to get the -7/30

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Make it -5/6 + 3/5

OpenStudy (triciaal):

no when you subtract a negative the net result is adding

OpenStudy (triciaal):

|dw:1477675183292:dw|

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Time to show you the process of how it stays negative.

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

\[\frac{- 5 * 5 }{ 30 } + \frac{ 3 * 6 }{ 30 }\] Same thing combine. \[\frac{ -5 * 5 + 3 * 6 }{ 30 }\] -25 + 3 * 6 -25 + 18 = -7 -7/30 Apply the rule of fraction -a/b = - a/b

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

A negative and a positive make a negative.

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

1/2 I don't think so.

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Alright lets go through this step by step.

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Apply the rule -(-a) = a

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

To our current problem.

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

\[\frac{ 7 }{ 8 } - \left(\begin{matrix}-3 \\ 8\end{matrix}\right)\]

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Apply the rule and tell me what you get ^^

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

A negative cancels out a negative and that rule has negatives so what happens to our problem?

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Hello @alayrhi ?

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

Yes sorry i was afk

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Please do what I asked above :)

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Its fine :).

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

Um 4?

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Nooo xD! as I said we are applying the rule of -(-a) = a > 7/8 - (-3/8) see how they have negatives in the exact same spot? Well the cancel each other out

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Now we get 7/8 + 3/8 > Since the denominators are equal we add the numerators so 7 + 3/8 which = ?/8

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

10/8?

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Yes so now cancel the common factor of 2 and tell me what you get

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

AKA how many times doe 2 go into 10 and 8 which is what canceling the factor of 2 out means.

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

does*

OpenStudy (alayrhi):

5 times in 10 and 4 times in 8..

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

Correct so what is our final answer?

DivineSolar (divinesolar):

@alayrhi
