OpenStudy (sushi121212):

Factor: 24x^2-8x^4+28a^6

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Notice any common factors to any of the numbers? They're all even numbers, so that should be a hint...

OpenStudy (christopher1448):

-24x5 + x4 + 8x3 + 7x2 - 34 ——————————————————————————— there u go x2

OpenStudy (sushi121212):

They all go into 4

OpenStudy (christopher1448):

^ I

OpenStudy (sushi121212):

Oh, oops, I wrote the wrong thing!!! It's 24a^2-8a^4+28a^6

OpenStudy (sushi121212):

I got an answer: 4a^2(6-2a^2+7a^4), but I don't think it's right.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Distribute the 4a^2 and find out.

OpenStudy (sushi121212):

But do I have to factor the (6-2a^2+7a^4) as well?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

It probably won't factor, but you can try \[\large 7a^4-2a^2+6\]Since it's like a quadratic, try factoring like a quadratic. Multiply the first and last numbers (7 and 6) to get 42, then see if you can find two numbers that multiply to 42, and add up to the middle term, -2.

OpenStudy (sushi121212):

I can't think of a number that multiply to get 42 and add to get -2. All I got was -1 from 7 and 6.
