OpenStudy (shaybellz88):

Which requires more work: lifting a 150kg box vertically for a distance of 10m, or lifting a 15kg box vertically for a distance of 100m?

OpenStudy (festinger):

To lift an object we need to supply work equal to the gravitational potential energy (G.P.E) The formula for gravitational potential energy is: mgh where m is mass, g is gravitational acceleration (9.8m/s^2) and h is the height. When you multiply 150*10*9.8 and 15*100*9.8, which value is larger?

OpenStudy (dariusx):

Both require same amount of work.

OpenStudy (osprey):

mgh ... 1 150x10x10=15,000 2 15x100x10=15,000 joules
