OpenStudy (cpratt10258):

For which of the following situations would you most likely use critical listening? A. persuasive speeches B. oral presentations of a poem C. conversations with friends or family D. casual listening to music

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Alright, so there is a key word here and that word is, critical. When you use critical listening you are not just listening but processing the information you are hearing. WHen you listen to music you listen but your really don't have to use critical listening. You also don't have to use critical listening when talking to friends and family. So, that leaves two choices; persuasive speeches and oral presentations of a poem. Now this is where it can get tricky. When listening to persuasive speeches you want to listen very closely to almost everything the person is saying. If you are listening to an oral presentation of a poem you could also use critical listening if your are analyzing the poem. So, I would say either one. I hope this helps some! @cpratt10258

OpenStudy (firejay5):

@cpratt10258 It would probably be most likely during persuasive speeches (A.), because critical listening is where you listen, judge, and analyze. Persuasive speeches are where someone is trying to convince you of something.

OpenStudy (firecub17):

I would say persuasive speeches. You have to ask yourself: why is it so persuasive? What is the speaker saying and how is he/she saying it? What is he/she using: ethos, pathos, and/or logos? These are all questions you have to ask yourself while critically listening to a persuasive speech. Hope this helped!
