Triangle OPQ is shown below with line RS passing through points R and S: Triangle OPQ is shown with point R lying on side OP and point S lying on side OQ Line RS is perpendicular to side OQ. If triangle OPQ is dilated about the center of the triangle to create triangle O'P'Q', what can you conclude about segments RS and R'S'? Segment O'Q' is perpendicular to segment R'S'. Line RS is parallel to line R'S'. Line RS is perpendicular to line R'S'. Point P' passes through line RS.

OpenStudy (3mar):

Well, I am here.

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

You think you can help on this? Im not getting it

OpenStudy (3mar):

Yes I think.

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

ok

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

thanks

OpenStudy (3mar):

Welcome! What did you pick?

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

I was thinking maybe A but I'm really not sure

OpenStudy (3mar):

Did you try to see the dilated triangle?

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

im not sure how to

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

u there?

OpenStudy (3mar):

Yes

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

oh ok

OpenStudy (3mar):

Can you find the center of the triangle?

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

I'm probably wrong, but P..?

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

@Will.H

OpenStudy (3mar):

It does not reflect your respect for who is helping you when you tag another one!

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

i didn't mean it in a bad way i just like having more than one opinion/answer because if more than one person picks the same answer it shows that that answer is most probably correct

OpenStudy (will.h):

Okay so it is definitely not an option that indicates "perpendicular" because that wouldn't be dilation. Dilation is simply zooming in or out to a some specific figure in this case the triangle. So if we dilate the triangle the image would be either parallel to corresponding side or passing through some side in the pre image. It depends on the scale factor and the center of dilation. So it is either B or D Now what do u think? Did u sketch the graph?

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

I think B is the answer now?

OpenStudy (will.h):

I noticed we don't even have a scale factor

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

yeah

OpenStudy (3mar):

Take that! I hope that helps!

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

I think what you just sent shows that B is the answer? Is that right?

OpenStudy (will.h):

Oh wait I didn't see ur previous answer.u r right it is A Because since OQ in the pre image is perpendicular to Rs then in the image (after dilation) it will be the same. Since they all follow a specific scale factor

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

But u said its either b or d? so it's A?

OpenStudy (will.h):

It is either B or D when there is a scale factor and when the phrase "OQ is perpendicular to Rs doesn't exist) that would be the original case. But this case is different

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

Oh ok. So you sure A is the answer?

OpenStudy (will.h):

Absolutely

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

ok thanks so much guys

OpenStudy (will.h):

Yw
