OpenStudy (fo14):

Im stuck on this practice question and how to get the answer, what is a universal set?- Suppose U={3,4,5,6,8,11,12,14,15} is a universal set and A={4,5,8,12,15}. What is A'? A:{3,4,6,8,11,14} B:{3,6,11,14} C:{4,6,8,15} D:{3,6,11,12,14}

OpenStudy (fo14):

Can someone tell me the process on how to get the answer

OpenStudy (reemii):

I didn't see that ' in the other post. -> \(A'\). You're looking for the complementary set: it is ` the set that contains all results that are not in A `. Go over the set U, element by element, and check if that element is in A. If it is not, then it belongs to \(A'\).

OpenStudy (reemii):

For example, `3` is in U, but not in A. So `3` belongs to A'.

OpenStudy (reemii):

What about 4 (in A), 5 (in A), 6 (in A?), 8, 11, 12, 14, 15? When you answer these questions, you have found A' .

OpenStudy (fo14):

ohhh i get it thanks for explaining it

OpenStudy (reemii):

great :-)
