OpenStudy (libby.marie):

Elle is playing with a ball in a bus that moves in a straight line with constant velocity. What can you say about the motion of the ball in the moving bus if Elle throws the ball vertically upwards?

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Well, if you graphed this you could see that the graph takes the shape of a parabola. If the x-axis was time and the y-axis was height it would be curved like a parabola. Plus is she threw it straight up then the ball's velocity is the same as the bus's velocity, whatever it may be. I hope this helped. Also welcome of OpenStudy!

OpenStudy (osprey):

AS FAR AS ELLE IS CONCERNED, the ball comes straight back down again, and she catches it AS THOUGH SHE WERE STATIONARY. AS FAR AS SOMEONE watching her do it FIXED RELATIVE TO THE BUS, the ball is moving in a PARABOLA. Welcome to Relativity. http://perendis.webs.com

OpenStudy (osprey):

ps the only way that she can tell she's moving ON A PERFECTLY SMOOTH RIDE is if she looks out of the window and sees things (hopefully no traffic jams) whizzing past her. If I've got this lot wrong, doubtless I'll get shot by someone.

OpenStudy (osprey):

ps "Elle" is French for "She" in English ... probably among many other things.

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

I think you posted this one the wrong post @ganeshie8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Wow, I don't know how that got here ! Ty for letting me know :)
