Algebra 10 Online
OpenStudy (leilatheunicorn):

Please help me on these, I'll medal. If I can. Even though I don't know what that means. I just joined. 1. y > 1.9 A) -9 B) -2 C) 2 D) 1.9 2. g +3 > 6 A) 3 B) 4 C) -3 D) -4 3. Which number is a solution of the inequality? 6 > z (10 - z) A) 0 B) 1 C) 2 D) 3 4. What are the solutions of the inquality? Check the solutions. 3x + 10 ≥ 4 A) x ≥ -2 B) x ≤ 2 C) x ≤ -2 D) x ≥ 2 5. What are the solutions to the inequality? Check the solutions. 2(b - 8) < 12 A) b > 20 B) b > 6 C) b < 14 D) b < 20

Hey Leila :) Welcome to OpenStudy! The first one should be pretty straight forward. This symbol > means greater than. So the equation reads "y is greater than 1.9". They want to know what number you could put in place of y for the equation to hold true. Well, B is certainly not the correct option. -2 is NOT greater than 1.9. The same goes for option D, 1.9 is NOT strictly larger than 1.9.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

The other problems require a little bit of algebra. g+3 > 6 If we isolate the g, it might be easier to see what's going on. Right now 3 is being added to g, so to isolate g, we'll do the opposite, we'll subtract 3 from each side, g+3-3 > 6-3 giving us g > 3 So again, choose the option which could take the place of g and make the equation hold true.

OpenStudy (leilatheunicorn):

I'm confused. So 1. is either A or C? And 2. is A?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

g > 3 So you think maybe option A, g=3. 3 > 3 Hmm no that doesn't work out. 3 is not larger than 3.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Yes, number 1 is either A or C. Use your brainnnn powerrrrr :D

OpenStudy (leilatheunicorn):

So 4, which is B?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Mmmm ya that looks better!

OpenStudy (leilatheunicorn):

And 2. is 2 (c)?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

problem 1 is C) 2. yes. I think that's what you meant at least.

OpenStudy (leilatheunicorn):

Yes that's what I mean :)

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Problem 3 is a little tricky. \(\large\rm 6 > \color{indianred}{z}(10-\color{indianred}{z})\) You wouldn't want to try and solve for z in this case. It would be pretty difficult. Instead plug the options in, one by one, and see which one gives you a true equation. Example: If I plug option D which is 3, \(\large\rm 6 > \color{indianred}{3}(10-\color{indianred}{3})\) Then it will simplify to, \(\large\rm 6 > 3(7)\) \(\large\rm 6 > 21\) This reads as "6 is greater than 21". Which is not true. So option D is no bueno.

OpenStudy (cazeh):

1. y > 1.9 A) -9
