OpenStudy (gretchen086):

Simplify (5x3− x + 14) − (3x2− 9x + 4)

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Combine "like terms." For example, 5x^3 stands alone because there's only one term in x^3. -x and -(-9x) are "like terms" and can be combined: 9x-1x=8x. See what you can do on your own now.

OpenStudy (kyleighg):

First you would need to solve the things in the parenthesis by combining like terms. Then, you would use something such as foil or the box method to multiply the two sections of the parenthesis.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I'd suggest you first remove the parentheses from the original expression. There is NO multiplication involved here, only subtraction. The first 3 terms become 5x^3-x+14, and the second 3 terms become -3x^2+9x-4. Combine "like terms." Show your work. Again: NO multiplication applies here.
