OpenStudy (brittanyrolfe):

Like natural selection, genetic drift always leads to adaptations within populations; only mutations do not result in adaptations. True False

OpenStudy (brittanyrolfe):

@Jamierox4ev3r

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

This is worded oddly...darn Marushia!

OpenStudy (brittanyrolfe):

I am thinking false. She words everything badly

OpenStudy (brittanyrolfe):

I don't think genetic drift ALWAYS leads to adaptation

OpenStudy (brittanyrolfe):

Genetic drift is the random change in allele frequencies from generation to generation

OpenStudy (brittanyrolfe):

That is how the book defines it

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

I mean...genetic drift is a mechanism of evolution. So there's a good chance that it does indeed lead to adaptations that organisms may have to take to combat the effects of genetic drift

OpenStudy (brittanyrolfe):

but it is random, similar to mutation

OpenStudy (brittanyrolfe):

Genetic drift can also cause lack of diversity in small populations

OpenStudy (brittanyrolfe):

My gut is saying false here

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

But what I'm stuck on is the phrase, "mutations do not result in adaptations." mutations are just things that happen... they don't CAUSE adaptations. My gut is saying "false" as well

OpenStudy (brittanyrolfe):

true, okay. Thank you

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

No problem! I hope it's right, rip >.< Did you do the readings btw?

OpenStudy (brittanyrolfe):

I am doing the readings while I do the quiz

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

o. noice
