OpenStudy (mathlogic):

Okay, so first derivative tells the local max, min.Second derivative tells direction of concavity. What else do we know from the second and first derivative?

OpenStudy (steve816):

First derivative tells whether the function is increasing or decreasing. When second derivative goes from positive to negative or negative to positive, it will have a point of inflection at that point.

OpenStudy (mathlogic):

You can use the first derivative to find the inflection point?

OpenStudy (phi):

***You can use the first derivative to find the inflection point?*** The first derivative of a function = 0 at an inflection point. (and also at local max or min points)
