OpenStudy (chpatterson):

Can someone explain to me how is this the right like explain it to me real quick The triangle shown in the diagram is going to be dilated by a scale factor of 1 3 . What is the length of the new side that corresponds to side AB? A) 1 B) 3 C) 9 D) 1 3

OpenStudy (chpatterson):

The answer is a

OpenStudy (chpatterson):

A) 1 B) 3 C) 9 D) 1 3

OpenStudy (chpatterson):

@pooja195 can you explain to this me please.

OpenStudy (chpatterson):

@sleepyjess

OpenStudy (miasan5653):

AB in the image is three squares long. since it is a one to three ratio and it was dilated, you divide the number of squares on that side by three. Dilated means that it expanded, not shrunk, since 3/3 is one, the actual length of that side is one.

OpenStudy (miasan5653):

@chpatterson

OpenStudy (triciaal):

to dilate means to apply the multiplying factor each length will be changed by that same factor start by finding the length of AB then multiply by the factor to get the new length

OpenStudy (chpatterson):

I went to another one let me post it

OpenStudy (triciaal):

@MiaSan5653 please reread what you posted

OpenStudy (chpatterson):

Never mind thanks my parents are making me mad sorry bye

OpenStudy (triciaal):

what is going on today or is it me you are the third person with family issues. You are authorized to get help with your schoolwork if needed. you need to also respect your parents rules

OpenStudy (miasan5653):

@triciaal So does the dilated mean that the result will shrink by three? I don't really think I read it clearly

OpenStudy (triciaal):

when the scale factor is a fraction then the original will become smaller here the 3 units factor 1/3 so now the length is 1 unit when the scale factor is a multiple then the original is that many times longer expand

OpenStudy (triciaal):

the original is just 1 times the length the 1 is understood
