In what way was captain John Smith instrumental in the survival of the Jamestown colony? a)he insisted that all colonists work on producing food if they were to eat; b)he planned the goods the colonists should take so they'd survive after landing; he secured trade with the Indians so that they had enough food to survive harsh winters
The Jamestown bunch could have disappeared as easily as Roanoke before it. Everybody was there to get rich finding gold. A look at a list of the occupations of the first batch shows lots of "Gentlemen" and their personal servants and very few workers with skills to keep a group alive. Smith came on the scene a little later and imposed some discipline and order to the group so they could produce enough food to stay alive.
