This is a question that my psych teacher asked but it works here too... It's a prompt for my paper and yeah.. Stuff What is the relationship between critical thinking and problem solving?

OpenStudy (jadeishere):

My claim is; Critical thinking is an overall way of thinking which tends to be reflective and deliberate. Problem-solving is used in specific scenarios, so putting the two together creates a solution that is effective and well thought-out. Is this some-what accurate. I'm insanely tired so I don't know

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

I think the two directly correlate with each other. Critical thinking is employed when there is a problem to solve, and you need a solution. By definition, such a process is "problem solving."

OpenStudy (jadeishere):

Not all problem solving involves critical thinking. Critical thinking, yes, needs to be reasoned, as does problem solving, but they are different

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

I think the moment someone encounters a problem, no matter how large or small, menial and trivial, critical thinking is employed. Whether it takes a second, to a minute. Looking at some definitions of what is "critical." -involving the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgement. I think people may think critical thinking is some higher form of problem solving, but it's really just analyzing something and finding a solution. Someone may ask us what color their jacket is, and whilst it is simple, we must analyze them, compare it to what we know(forming a judgement) then answering.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

And such a question, is considered to be a problem. Something to solve, and to provide an answer for...a solution.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Human brains are basically incredibly complex computers all packed into a couple of pounds on a human body. Computers, compute. That is, they calculate or make sense of something. Like when your computer encounters something it hasn't before, it goes into it's programming seeing if it knows anything about it, if not, error! This is all to say, that critical thinking and problem solving are both simple terms that stand on the same common ground.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Those are my thoughts, and if you'd like more, just ask. Also, if you need someone to proofread your paper, I'd be happy to.

OpenStudy (jadeishere):

Maybe tomorrow, well later today. I'll try to get back on in a few hours. I need sleep, I'm gonna pass out! Thanks so much and g'night Shad :)

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Goodnight Jade, a plethora of rest for thou I hope :)
