Complete the blanks in the following paragraph using the appropriate words from the list: anterior, bilateral, inferior, lateral, medial, posterior, superior When Caleb met up with Kaley outside the movie theater, the (1)__ aspects of their bodies faced each other as they talked. Caleb noticed that the hair located on top of the most (2)__ part of Kaley's head appeared to be a different color than the last time he saw her. He then asked her to turn around so that he could see it from a (3)__ view. As she did so, Caleb saw that the braid running down the central, (4) __ region of her head contained a blue streak of color, while the braids running (5)__ , behind her ears, had pink streaks. He told Kaley how much he liked her hair, and they went inside to watch the movie. I think the answer is : Superior, Anterior, Lateral, Media, and Bilateral. But i am not 100% sure

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Definition type of questions can be made simple by understanding the meaning of the words. Hints: Anterior: nearer the front, especially situated in the front of the body Posterior: further back in position; of or nearer the rear or hind end Lateral: of, at, toward, or from the side or sides Medial: pertaining to the middle; in or toward the middle; nearer the middle of the body

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

So then with those definitions, is the first questions answer medial?

OpenStudy (mww):

you should post this in biology section These are anatomical reference terms see http://www.thinksciencemaurer.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/anatomicla-position.jpg anterior means in front of in the coronal plane. eg. the chest is anterior to the spine/back lateral means away from the vertical body midline. We say the ears are lateral to the eyes and nose. Or the thumb is lateral to the index finger. (in anatomical position the palms face out anteriorly) medial means towards the vertical body midline (eyes are medial to the ears) posterior means behind in the coronal plane - the back is posterior to the chest, or the occipital lobe is posterior to the frontal lobe.

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

so with those definitions, i got The second question right i think?

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

superior tho

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

i put this : Superior, Anterior, Lateral, Media, and Bilateral fot the second answer I'm just not sure if i got any wrong

OpenStudy (mww):

the second part isn't quite right. When you face someone, the anterior parts (front) of body is facing the other. The anterior part of the face doesn't make much sense since anterior is by nature the front already. Superior and inferior describe above or below.

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

so for the second question, for sentence 2 the answer is anterior, but that means the first question also makes sense for anterior but it can't be both

OpenStudy (mww):

no, the first one is anterior. You could say the superior parts are facing each other but then so are the inferior parts. Not like one of them is upside down...

OpenStudy (mww):

the second as I said if you said anterior, then this is redundant because the face is already the most anterior part of someone's body (along with chest and front of body).

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

ok.. so for the second question i now have : 1) Anterior, 2) superior, 3)Lateral, 4) Medial, 5) Bilateral. Correct?

OpenStudy (mww):

that looks better. the 3rd is not lateral though. Lateral would be seeing her side on, so seeing one side of her hip face you.

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

yeah in the sentence its saying he wants to see her SIDE view? so lateral is side?

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

not the hip the hair side

OpenStudy (mww):

in fact open this link as I showed http://www.thinksciencemaurer.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/anatomicla-position.jpg The right person is being observed from a lateral view. The left person is observed from an anterior view. So what view would be 'turned around"? from anterior

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

so 3 is posterior? not lateral?

OpenStudy (mww):

turn around generally means 180 degrees so you are seeing her back.

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

so yes its posterior?

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

inferior?

OpenStudy (mww):

yes. The last one I am not 100% whether bilateral would be the best description, could also be lateral. I guess the hair braids are on both sides hence the 'bi'

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

yes to inferior?

OpenStudy (mww):

I think you are still not 100% on the terms. What does inferior mean?

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

lower

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

so then number 3 is posterior like i said before inferior yes?

OpenStudy (mww):

yes lower compared to reference pt. But note how he sees it, by getting her to turn around. If he instead did not turn her around and bent down, then you'd say he was looking inferior from his original position.

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

okay got it thanks so much. my full answer I'm putting is 1) Anterior, 2) superior, 3) posterior, 4) Medial, 5) Bilateral.

OpenStudy (mww):

That would be about right.

OpenStudy (mww):

5 as I said not 100% sure if it's bilateral or simply lateral, but the others are good to me.

OpenStudy (mww):

it's easier to do this exercise with a physical subject.

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

ok ill just still to bilateral though and hope for the best. for then first question i put medial though thats correct yes? because the neck is in the middle of the shoulders

OpenStudy (cazeh):

lateral

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

yes i got medial right for number 1

OpenStudy (julyahx1):

for question 2 i have to wait for it to be graded so
