OpenStudy (evansanchez):

There is an elevator in a building that is 450 feet tall with 30 stories. Starting from the 20th floor, the elevator descends steadily toward the bottom floor, passing the 15th floor half a minute after its descent started. The graph below summarizes this information. Based on the graph, determine how fast the elevator travels and the time it would take to go from the 20th floor to the bottom of the building.

OpenStudy (jailbird):

hmm

OpenStudy (3mar):

Could I help you?

OpenStudy (jailbird):

go for it, still solving myself...

OpenStudy (3mar):

The idea is so simple! It is a straight line, need to form its equation - using these two points on the graph through them it passes.

OpenStudy (jailbird):

I know its sim....wait a minute, Im sitting here trying to graph it myself when I have the darn thing in front of me -.-

OpenStudy (jailbird):

Ok, I got it :P If it helps, it gets to the ground at two seconds, but we dont need to know that, we need the slope. our coordinates given to us to use are (.5, 225) and (0,300) remember your slope formula??

OpenStudy (3mar):

By the way, no need to graph it! Just form the line equation using this formula!

OpenStudy (jailbird):

That's what I used :3

OpenStudy (3mar):

show me what you got, brother!

OpenStudy (jailbird):

@evansanchez can you plug in your coordinates into the formula @3mar gave you??

OpenStudy (evansanchez):

whats the coordinates?

OpenStudy (3mar):

The two points on the graph!

OpenStudy (evansanchez):

i meant formula *

OpenStudy (3mar):

(0,300) (0.5,225) http://pasteboard.co/CcGJStsc.png and here also

OpenStudy (evansanchez):

0, 300 / 0.5, 225 ?

OpenStudy (evansanchez):

wait

OpenStudy (3mar):

subtract y's and divide them by the subtraction of x's!

OpenStudy (evansanchez):

0 - 300 / 0.5 - 225

OpenStudy (evansanchez):

lemme get my total hold on

OpenStudy (evansanchez):

i got an answer of -75.5

OpenStudy (3mar):

why that"0 - 300 / 0.5 - 225 "?
