Hi I was wondering is yo y mi familia or mi familia y yo in spanish when doing preterit tense? Thank you

Yo translates to "I". So does "I and my family..." make more sense, or does "My family and I..." make more sense?

OpenStudy (drunkmaria):

My family and I sounds more correct but my professor made put yo y mi familia instead.

OpenStudy (drunkmaria):

Maybe it was an error or something thank you!

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Maybe. You're welcome! :)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

"Mi familia y yo" and "yo y mi familia" are both correct, just as "my family and I" and "I and my family" are correct when used as a subject. I don't think it is a case of correctness; it is a case of politeness. It is polite to mention others before yourself. The sentences "I and my friend went to the movies." "My friend and I went to the movies." are both perfectly grammatically correct. I think it is simply more polite to use the second one. Perhaps in your case, the context made it better to use "yo y mi familia."

OpenStudy (maxwellfish):

My friend and I went to the movies is politically correct
