OpenStudy (otherworldly):

when a moderator gives you a warning, can't they at least tell you which question made them get noticed by the moderator that showed that they weren't following the coc? It's really annoying how they just say to read it, give you a warning but dont tell you what the problem is

pooja195 (pooja195):

We can't really put links into warning messages since they don't appear as links. And since warnings are pop-up messages they aren't a good idea to put links in. I'd also like to say, when you give a direct answer you should know when you gave the user an answer. Do some investigative work....go back to your recently answer posts and see what you did wrong. If you fail to find it, you can ALWAYS PM a moderator and they will help you out and let you know the specifics. Your situation would have been better solved by simply messaging a mod who is online, rather than publicly mentioning how annoying mods are when they write a warning.

OpenStudy (otherworldly):

Thats not what i meant, i didn't mean for it to be seen negatively

jagr2713 (jagr2713):

Like @pooja195 said its best to message a moderator for a better explanation on why you receive the warning etc. But, your idea sounds pretty good to me. It should have the warning, the issuer, and the question, if there is any, so that it can save the person who is receiving the warning some time.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

True...some users were accidentally given warnings before and panicked over it because they really didn't do anything wrong. Although they could DM the mods, it still doesn't shake off the feeling of shock xD

OpenStudy (otherworldly):

Okay so a mod told me which question got me a warning and it was a closed question. I was going through the closed questions when i came across the one I gave a direct answer to. Now it was CLOSED. that usually means the person doesn't need help anymore so I dont see the problem in saying A B C o D. Sure it was a direct answer but the question is closed and there is no reason to explain. Doesnt it only violate the coc when the person is online, not closed question ,asking for help, and you just give the direct answer? All those things were not happening at the moment. You can tell me all day that it was a violation but all im hearing is violation violation violation you arent really answering how its a problem.

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Well, when other students from that same school are stuck on that question, all they have to do is search it up on Google, and they'll find that exact post, with your answer on it. The goal of OpenStudy is to teach students so that they really understand the answer, being able to find it on their own. Even if the question was closed, it's still searchable online, so many other students can cheat off of that answer. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

If you have a question or are uncertain why you got a warning, it is best to private message the mod and ask them to explain the warning. Asking the question publicly is considered since there is no need and is considered spam. Moderators encourage you to read the Code-of-Conduct so you can better understand the rules on this site. You can learn the do's and dont's and avoid having to get a warning that way. The rules on this site say: No Direct Answers. This does not mean that its okay to give a direct answer when it's night, when the user is offline, or when the question is closed. This means that there is zero tolerance for answers without an explanation or a step-by-step to solve the question. It doesn't have to be a huge explanation, it can be short and brief, as long as the user understands and can learn from your explanation. That's why were here, to teach and learn!

OpenStudy (derricklewis):

No they can not

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

Always give an explanation, even if the asker is offline/closed the question. I too was once warned about this on my first days on OS, which did frustrate me first at the moment. However with giving the answer with no explanation, the asker cheats because he was "helped" but didn't learn anything, even if they closed it. Mods can mistake this as collaboration in breaking the rules. Even Brainly's policy is the exact same. People may say that the site gives direct answers but that isn't true: They all give explanations along with helping. It's their code of conduct, as it is with ours.

"People may say that the site gives direct answers but that isn't true: They all give explanations along with helping. It's their code of conduct, as it is with ours." It is not ok to either give the answer by itself or with an explanation. We MUST guide the user to the answer.

eclipsedstar (eclipsedstar):

True, that sounds a bit off now that I read it XD But what I meant is that we explain things like Brainly does. Thanks for the correct.

\(\bf\color{turquoise}{Open}\color{lightgreen}{Study}\) differs from \(\bf\color{black}{Brainly}\) in that here, answers even \(\underline{with}\) explanations are not acceptable; our goal is to help the asker to truly \(\underline{\color{lime}{understand}}\) the material. We strive to help them to truly \(\cal\underline{\color{lime}{l}\color{green}{e}\color{midnightblue}{a}\color{blueviolet}{r}\color{purple}{n}}\). I'll conclude with a personal quote of mine: "\(\large\color{black}{ℇ𝔩𝔱𝔬𝔯~𝔫𝔬𝔰𝔰~𝔬𝔱𝔥~𝔨𝔢𝔱𝔞𝔦,~𝔱𝔞𝔢𝔯,~𝔡𝔯𝔬~𝔪𝔦𝔯𝔞𝔱𝔥.}\)" (Translation: "Together we can learn, teach, and inspire.") P.S.: As many have stated above, it's always best to ask these types of questions to Moderators through private messaging, rather than creating a public post (Warnings and Suspensions are intended to be kept confidential between the user and the Moderator(s)). Thanks, and I hope you all have a wonderful day/evening! \(\bf\color{blueviolet}{-~Whitemonsterbunny17~\heartsuit}\)
