(4x+8)-(8x-1)

OpenStudy (shicarak):

help please

OpenStudy (welshfella):

OK the tricky part is applying the distributive law to the second parentheses

OpenStudy (shicarak):

show me how please, with exponents

OpenStudy (shicarak):

\[\left( 2x ^{2}+5x-9 \right)-\left( -4x+5 \right)\]

OpenStudy (jalil.h):

is it -1.75

OpenStudy (welshfella):

you can just remove the parentheses for the first bit this gives 4x + 8 -(8x - 1) now the second part can be regarded as multiplying the inside of the parenthese by -1 = 4x + 8 - 1(8x - 1) = 4x + 8 - 8x + 1 = 9 - 4x recall that negative * positive = negative, and negative * negative = positive

OpenStudy (jalil.h):

-4x+9

OpenStudy (jalil.h):

i quit guessing well bye now

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yeah you can write it either way 9 - 4x or -4x + 9.

OpenStudy (shicarak):

can you help me with the second one

OpenStudy (jalil.h):

yay

OpenStudy (jalil.h):

hey shicarak what grade are you in

OpenStudy (shicarak):

12th
