HELP ASAP!! The correlation coefficient for your data set is -0.015. How confident can you be that your predicted value will be reasonably close to the actual value?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

-0.015? What is the range of the Correlation Coefficient?

OpenStudy (princessww):

I don't know thats why Im asking for help this is all she gave me

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

I do not believe that. Part of the exercise must be a description of the Correlation Coefficient. It is not reasonable to give this problem without SOME background. The Correlation Coefficient takes on values from -1 (perfect negative correlation) to +1 (perfect positive correlation). How close are you to either of those useful extremes?

OpenStudy (princessww):

0.015 is the only background information my teacher provided

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Still, I do not believe you were told to reinvent the Correlation Coefficient. If you were, you need a new teacher or you are in a class of investigative learning and looking it up and understanding it are part fo the assignment. I gave you the information you need. Please read it again and answer the question.

OpenStudy (princessww):

Ok well it doesn't matter if you don't BELIEVE me. I don't have a reason to lie about it. I just put down what my teacher gave me and if it doesn't make sense that is why I ask the question! I always have these kinds of questions. Don't give me that. Take it up with school boards or someone important because these kinds of questions are what we "learn" now. Thank you and Goodbye.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

You didn't answer the question: The Correlation Coefficient takes on values from -1 (perfect negative correlation) to +1 (perfect positive correlation). How close are you to either of those useful extremes?
