OpenStudy (pebbles1):

A boy on a skateboard is pushed down the sidewalk by a friend. The skateboard rolls for a while but eventually comes to a stop. What force is causing the skateboard to stop rolling?

OpenStudy (harman.singh):

The force causing the skateboard to stop rolling is the force acting against the motion, known as the force of friction.

OpenStudy (bugman954):

I am not sure the friction in well-functioning bearings is the most significant force depleting the momentum. I believe just like in pneumatic tires the force compressing the tire when it hits the pavement and bears the weight of the rider and adapts to irregularities in the surface is the most significant energy sink. This is why trains use steel wheels to save the fuel.
