@taytayluvtater

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

There are two main methods that you can use while solving systems of equations: substitution and elimination. One is preferred than the other depending on what equations you are given (check this forum out: https://www.wyzant.com/resources/answers/2997/how_do_you_figure_out_how_to_determine_the_best_method_to_solve_the_system_of_equations_then_sole_the_system). With the equations \(\large 2 + W = L\) \(\large 2W + 2L = 24\) what we know is what \(\large L\) is equal to (\(\large 2 + W\)). With this information, we can substitute this value into where \(\large L\) is in the second equation. Now it becomes \(\large 2W + 2(2 + W) = 24\). In this way, we will be able to solve for \(\large W\) and then use that value of \(\large W\) to solve for \(\large L\).

@MeowRoar Do you understand the approach?

OpenStudy (meowroar):

yes

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

And that method was just substitution.

OpenStudy (meowroar):

i know thanks i under stand how to solve it now

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Alright that's great to hear!

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

And... \[\huge \bf \color{maroon}{\text{WELCOME TO OPENSTUDY!}}\]

OpenStudy (meowroar):

so w= 5 and l = 7

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Yes :)
