Can someone please help me answer these questions? I'm just so confused and don't get a single thing on Magnetism. Science is usually one of my best subjects, but I just don't understand how this ties in with poles. (North and South) What causes the poles to ‘flip’? What, in your opinion, are the three most significant outcomes of a reversal of the Earth’s magnetic field? What outcome mentioned in the passage do you think is least likely to happen and why? As the poles slowly flip, why do you think the magnetic field progressively loses its strength? Animals could become disorientated?

OpenStudy (osprey):

Animals could become disorientated? = carrier pigeons possibly

OpenStudy (osprey):

is there a source text behind this question ... the word "passage" is mentioned ...

OpenStudy (vipulrakta):

simply when the charge at the rest they produces electric field and moving charges produced magnetic field. for e.g. when a current passing through a wire and you take compass near it compass shows the deflection this is due to magnetic field is created around it . the magnet we generally use are A ferromagnet, like a paramagnetic substance, has unpaired electrons. However, in addition to the electrons' intrinsic magnetic moment's tendency to be parallel to an applied field, there is also in these materials a tendency for these magnetic moments to orient parallel to each other to maintain a lowered-energy state. Thus, even in the absence of an applied field, the magnetic moments of the electrons in the material spontaneously line up parallel to one another. IN CASE OF earth magnetic field due to The Earth's magnetic field is believed to be generated by electric currents in the conductive material of its core, created by convection currents due to heat escaping from the core.
