OpenStudy (berrymox):

How does one do product notation in Microsoft Excel?

OpenStudy (berrymox):

For example:

OpenStudy (berrymox):

\[\prod_{n=500}^{1200}0.005n+1.14\]

OpenStudy (berrymox):

@mathstudent55

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

Excel should have a product function built in.... =Product(A1,B1,C1...)

OpenStudy (berrymox):

But wouldn't that just be Prouduct of n=a1 to whatever of n ?

OpenStudy (berrymox):

How would I make it of 0.005n+1.14 ?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

hmm it wont let me attach a file

OpenStudy (berrymox):

take a print screen and upload it? idk

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

anyway, make a column for the "N" values, 500 to 1200 Then in next column, write ".005*An +1.14" In 3rd column, use product function.... product(B2:B)

OpenStudy (berrymox):

Do I need to make one cell for every number from 500 to 1200, or just thoe two?

OpenStudy (berrymox):

I'm working with large numbers, so...

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

no you need a cell for every number between 500 and 1200

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

fyi, for this example the answer is going to be a very very large number

OpenStudy (berrymox):

Makes me wish it had a closed form for n > 1

OpenStudy (berrymox):

Of course it's large, it's a product notation
