Hmm this question is kind of tricky. We know that 12*12=144 right? So therefore \(\rm \sqrt{144}=12\) We've got some weird decimals involving this number.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Ok ok ok, this might be a little hard to understand... but like... since 100 is a perfect square, every time you take 100 out of a number, (which is the same as moving the decimal 2 places), you end up with another perfect square (rational). So for example if we take 144 and move the decimal 2 places, 1.44, the square root of this number will be rational! \(\rm \sqrt{1.44}=1.2\)

zepdrix (zepdrix):

12*12 = 144 1.2*1.2 = 1.44 .12 * .12 = ?

OpenStudy (yuii):

0.0144?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Yes. Therefore \(\rm \sqrt{0.0144}=.12\) is a rational number! :)

OpenStudy (yuii):

Were the other questions I had right?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Yes, the first two were answered correctly.

OpenStudy (yuii):

Thank you.
