OpenStudy (denniscohick1):

What adverbs and how do they help us?

OpenStudy (klark):

An adverb is a word belonging to one of the major form classes in any of numerous languages, typically serving as a modifier of a verb, an adjective, another adverb, a preposition, a phrase, a clause, or a sentence, expressing some relation of manner or quality, place, time, degree, number, cause, opposition, affirmation, or denial, and in English also serving to connect and to express comment on clause content — compare adjunct, conjunct, disjunct. Hope this helps.

OpenStudy (welshfella):

An adverb is a part of speech which modifies a verb. for example :_ 'I run quickly' - quickly is the adverb describing how I run .

OpenStudy (osprey):

adverbs modify the verb being used. I am well ... "well" modifies my state of "being" as in "to be" as in "I am". "I am playing well" modifies positively the first person singular present tens of the verb "to play". Modern day speak tends to switch around adverbs and adjectives. "Good" is, i think, an adjective. So "How are you" "I am good" should be "I am well".

OpenStudy (changeme):

they modify verbs

OpenStudy (osprey):

looks as though it's unanimous
