OpenStudy (lacris):

Please help me c: I will give you a shiny shiny medal! :> It deals with statistics. In 2002, the median pH level of the rain in a national park was 5.20. A biologist thinks that the acidity of rain has decreased since then. (This would mean that the pH level of the rain has increased.) She obtains a random sample of 19 rain dates in 2008 and obtains the accompanying data. Determine the P-value of the hypothesis test performed in the statement.

OpenStudy (lacris):

I thought the n would be 19, and the k = 14

OpenStudy (lacris):

@jhonyy9 I hope you have time to spare c:

OpenStudy (lacris):

This is the data from least to greatest :)

OpenStudy (lacris):

Is the highlighted section a part of the minus section?

OpenStudy (lacris):

OpenStudy (lacris):

@jim_thompson5910 I hope you have time to help :>

OpenStudy (lacris):

I dont know I have to use the binomial cdf n =20, (20, 0.5) however for the k, I'm not sure what to choose and why.

iYuko (iyuko):

tew erly for this

iYuko (iyuko):

smh.

OpenStudy (lacris):

Ahh, do you think you can help me?

iYuko (iyuko):

u'll have tew catch me monday

iYuko (iyuko):

Im so burned out. srry.

OpenStudy (lacris):

Aww, okay, do you know anyone else who can?

iYuko (iyuko):

@518nad @Jaynator495 @Jamierox4ev3r

OpenStudy (lacris):

@jim_thompson5910 :>

OpenStudy (lacris):

Thank you iYuko :>

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

why not use a tcdf?

OpenStudy (lacris):

oh, in my class my teacher taught us to use binomcdf. But there is a way to use tcdf as well?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm not sure why you're using a binomial

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

binomials are only used for bernouli trials (aka trials with only two outcomes, eg, "yes or no" type of questions) http://www.mathwords.com/b/bernoulli_trials.htm

OpenStudy (lacris):

Oh wow! I didn't know that, on our notes that our teacher gave, it says P-value = binomcdf (n,0.5,k).. for two tailed, left tail, and right tail :O I didn't know that, so I would use tcdf instead now?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's possible those notes applied to a different earlier problem

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're using a student T distribution because n = 19 is smaller than 30 sigma is not known or given

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

btw this is just a simple t-test that your teacher wants you to do

OpenStudy (lacris):

ahh so it would be, tcdf , 19, 0.5, and 5?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

df = n-1 df = 19-1 df = 18

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you'll need a t test statistic

OpenStudy (lacris):

|dw:1480746432837:dw|so I will have to plug in for this?
