Does this go with a word problem?

OpenStudy (yuii):

The link is the whole problem.

OpenStudy (rye2581):

Sorry i see it now.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Calculate q(w) for w = 1, w= 2, and w = 3. That will give you the number of quarters on week 1, week 2, and week 3. Then read the options and choose the correct one.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

q(w) = 3 + 5(w - 1) q(1) = 3 + 5(1 - 1) = q(2) = 3 + 5(2 - 1) = q(3) = 3 + 5(3 - 1) = Evaluate the three lines above.

OpenStudy (rye2581):

5 quarters were added to the bowel each week. I could be wrong so double check I used the same method mathstudent55 used.

OpenStudy (yuii):

1. q = 3 2. q = 4 3. q = 13/3

OpenStudy (yuii):

That's what I got.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You must follow the correct order of operations. q(1) = 3 + 5(1 - 1) = Do parentheses first: q(1) = 3 + 5(1 - 1) = 3 + 5(0) = Now do the multiplication: q(1) = 3 + 5(1 - 1) = 3 + 5(0) = 3 + 0 = Now add: q(1) = 3 + 5(1 - 1) = 3 + 5(0) = 3 + 0 = 3 On week 1 there were 3 quarters.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Now we do week 2 the same way: q(2) = 3 + 5(2 - 1) = 3 + 5(1) = 3 + 5 = 8 Finally, week 3: q(3) = 3 + 5(3 - 1) = 3 + 5(2) = 3 + 10 = 13 Here are the numbers: Week 1: 3 quarters Week 2: 8 quarters Week 3: 13 quarters What happened from week to week to the number of quarters? The number of quarters went up by how much each week?

OpenStudy (3mar):

Nice presentation, @mathstudent55!

OpenStudy (3mar):

@Yuii Medal is a small sign of appreciation! Do not forget to medal who had helped you!

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

@3ma3 Thanks!

OpenStudy (3mar):

You are so welcome! You know how to reach the middle of the battle! You deserve it!
