The classic Patriots vs Loyalist topic. Fun Fact: The Patriots are also called ‘Whigs’. The loyalists’ other name was the ‘Tories’. What separated the Patriots and Loyalists? Why did they have different ideas? Well, they were on different sides! In the American Revolution, our ‘tories’ wanted to remain loyal to the British monarchy/parliament, whilst the Patriots wanted independence/separation from it. Since we now are aware on their motives, what were the reasons? Lets go over them.
Patriots are the 'Americans' which started the revolution. Loyalists are the 'British' that fought against the revolution.
sorry i went back to myhistory question but im back now thanks smartiez lol its been a while
anyne still in here
Sorry if that was too long, I was attempting to type it sooner but crashed 3 times.
<3! Anytime sweetheart! Anyways, I have other information you are in need to know. (Sorry for not answering abruptly, I was typing on word since I crash when I type in OS’s chat box.) Since we covered the motives, we must list the supporting reasons on what influenced them. ‘Whigs’ reasons: Now, I don’t fully blame Patriots for desiring independence. The most essential reason on why they preferred freedom was because of the cruelty they suffered from King George. *) He neglected their petitions and political needs *) He made unfair and unnecessary taxes on them. Patriots believed that if they didn’t have representation in the Parliament, they don’t need to pay their taxes. Though, the monarchy and Great Britain didn’t favor their rebellion or concurred with them. These disputes had led to the boycott of the tea tax, later called the Boston tea party act. *) Made them quarter soldiers without their consent. *) Placed soldiers in their neighbor hoods *) etc. ‘Tories’ reasons: Now, after hearing all of that, why on earth would the loyalist want to stay loyal? Well, believe it or not, they had their valid reasons. *) Many loyalists were apart of the Anglican Church, which ironically, was led by the King of England *) They feared the unclear and believed the revolution would spawn disorder and financial hardships. Loyalist belied that giving up freedoms/rights was important to maintain order in things. They also feared the negative output/outcome of loss from going against Britain. *) Some depended on Britain because of the jobs at stake. *) Loyalist believed that even though they are not present in the parliament, their needs are still brought forward and represented. Fact: A more widely-known and famous Loyalist actually was a talented/appraised American general in the Continental Army. However, ‘unnoticed’, he then secretly switched sides in mid-war; becoming a spy for Great Britain. His name was Benedict Arnold. You can research more about him and even play interactive that decode his messages. I don’t know about you, but I am on the Whigs side. I don’t want to live in submission underneath a ‘tyrant’ like ruling. What about you? Sources: • I have learnt about this subject • My school supplied me resources about General Arnold and information about the Revolution
i dont mind a bit of reading if it helps me pass thanks doll XP
