OpenStudy (katie_rogers101):

Okay so I'm struggling with this question. What is the source of the energy released by exothermic chemical reactions? How does the amount of energy released compare to energy released by nuclear reactions? So to the first part I think the source is a fission reaction. But I have no idea how to answer the second part.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

The energy of exothermic reactions comes from the reduction in potential energy of the reactants as they are rearranged to configurations with less potential energy. Nuclear reactions are much more energetic, than chemical reactions, as they deal with strong nuclear force keeping nucleons together.

Thank you so much!

No problem !
