@paki @sammixboo @whitemonsterbunny @awolflover1 I have to turn ida b wells into a supervillain for a history project, and I have to come up with a villain name, powers, weaknesses, and a origin story, all of which connect with who she was. I'm not very creative and was wondering if any of you could help? thanks :)

http://www.biography.com/people/ida-b-wells-9527635 Her, right?

OpenStudy (babydreams):

Yeah

OpenStudy (babydreams):

I hate asking for help, but i've tried for the last week and a half to come up with something and I can't think of anything.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

You want to turn 'an African-American journalist and activist who led an anti-lynching crusade' into a villain.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Her full list: "African-American journalist, newspaper editor, suffragist, sociologist, feminist, Georgist, and an early leader in the Civil Rights Movement."

OpenStudy (babydreams):

Lol basically, yeah. And thanks, I already studied her, but coming up with the powers and stuff is difficult for me.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

With surmounting such a character, we should take a look at her quotes and see if they could be interpreted a different way, or perhaps a mistake on her part in words to provide a foundation for such a...story.

OpenStudy (babydreams):

Right, okay

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

For example, "One had better die fighting against injustice than die like a dog or a rat in a trap." Whilst this being a metaphor that most people would understand and find agreeable, it can be interpreted that Ida has an immense disregard for animals and other life except humans due to such a notion. Meager but it's getting somewhere.

OpenStudy (babydreams):

maybe it would be easier to write her as a super-hero rather than villain since she did more right than wrong in my opinion? And that's actually a really good flip on that quote.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Here's another one. You really only have to read the first few sentences but I'll post the whole thing in case you want the full context. "The lesson this teaches and which every Afro-American should ponder well, is that a Winchester rifle should have a place of honor in every black home, and it should be used for that protection which the law refuses to give. When the white man who is always the aggressor knows he runs as great a risk of biting the dust every time his Afro-American victim does, he will have greater respect for Afro-American life. The more the Afro-American yields and cringes and begs, the more he has to do so, the more he is insulted, outraged and lynched." Easily interpreted as encouraging violence and more killing. Especially with such controversy in our modern world in regards to guns, weapons, and violence, this could be an excellent angle.

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

"With surmounting such a character, we should take a look at her quotes and see if they could be interpreted a different way, or perhaps a mistake on her part in words to provide a foundation for such a...story." This is such a good idea.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

In "every black home" is calling for an entire race to arm themselves against another. Not all "white" people in this age were horrible. I believe the winners of the war, the North, painted the South in such a manner to show how what they did was good. As they say, the victors write history. But besides that, she's practically calling for a war which could easily arise. Quite a disregard of ones station, knowing that her writing could influence people. Painted as a careless figure who wanted violence versus peace.

OpenStudy (babydreams):

Right, I agree. So just kind of thinking outside of the box a bit would help more with this project.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

What do you have in mind?

OpenStudy (babydreams):

I'm kind of thinking about using some cliche yet kind of useful powers like shapeshifting and mind control, shapeshifting being she could change the color of her skin and or change into someone else to get her way with something, and mind control to control people into agreeing with her on things. It sounds generic and may not be right but at this point I just have to come up with something lol

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Yeah there is definitely the fictional type of villain

OpenStudy (babydreams):

right

OpenStudy (babydreams):
