Brothers, Enemies, Friends “I wonder what it will be like to see Blake again. We left on such bad terms. I hope he doesn’t do something stupid to ruin this for Gibs,” Caleb said to his wife Sarah. “You should just worry about behaving yourself. Both of you care too much about Gibs to let your differences get in the way of his wedding,” Sarah assured him. Hundreds of miles away, Blake sat on his balcony overlooking the New York skyline. My youngest brother is getting married. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Gibs. It’s been even longer since I’ve seen Caleb. I’d rather not see him, but I can’t miss this wedding, he thought. The day of Gibson’s wedding arrived a little too quickly for Caleb and Blake. The two older brothers walked into the church dressed in their tuxedos, but they did not even acknowledge each other. “Hey, guys! I am so glad you both came!” Gibson rushed to greet them with open arms. He managed to get one arm around each of their necks and pulled them in tight for a group hug. When he let them loose, they moved farther apart than they had been before. “I see that you two are still acting like children,” Gibson commented. Blake and Caleb just shrugged. “I hope you two can finally get over the past. I want both of you to be my best men. It would mean a lot to me,” Gibson said. “If he would just admit it was his fault, it would be long-forgotten,” Blake said angrily. “It was an accident!” Caleb shouted. “I still have a scar from that so-called accident!” Blake shouted back. “Do you really think I would spook a horse on purpose to make it buck you off?” Caleb questioned. “Why else would you be swinging your belt in a circle above your head?” Blake asked. “I was acting like a cowboy,” Caleb answered. “What?” Blake asked. Caleb began, “I know it was silly for a grown man to imitate a cowboy—but I was having fun—until . . . .” “Until Buster freaked out and bucked me off his back!” Blake started laughing. “I didn’t know you were just goofing off,” Blake said. “You never gave me a chance to explain. You just started yelling at me,” Caleb said. “I can’t believe I’ve wasted all this time holding a grudge. I’m sorry,” Blake apologized. “No hard feelings. I am so happy that we can be buds again. I’m really sorry that my silly behavior got you hurt,” Caleb said. “It’s okay. Now, I know that you didn’t mean it,” Blake said. “I think it’s time for a hug,” Gibson said. The three brothers wrapped their arms around each other’s shoulders and squeezed. “All right, little brother, let’s get you married!” Caleb said. “You’ve got your best men right here,” Blake said with his arm still wrapped around Caleb’s shoulders.
