Transversal cutting two parallel lines. Corresponding Angles are Congruent

OpenStudy (ab123):

I'm still confused. What is the formula to find it? Which is the correct answer? Thank you!

OpenStudy (deercult):

Since the corresponding angles are congruent, you know that this is true: 2m = (4m-120) Vertical angles are also congruent (a vertical angle:) |dw:1481236644315:dw| Which means 5n = (4m-120). Making sense so far?

OpenStudy (ab123):

Yes, thanks! What next?

OpenStudy (deercult):

Great! So, luckily, for this question, you have multiple choice answers, which means you can just plug in the right answers until you get the right ones. (That's what I always did in Geometry, to be honest!) If you didn't have multiple choices, though, you'd work it out as an equation. The easiest way would be to do the corresponding angles first to figure out what m is, in my opinion, and then just see what multiplied by five equals the number you get from that, which would give you n.

OpenStudy (ab123):

Would M be 60?

OpenStudy (deercult):

2(60) = 120 (4*60-120) = 120 So, yes!

OpenStudy (ab123):

Thank you so much! I think i'm understanding it now :)

OpenStudy (deercult):

I'm glad to hear it!
