OpenStudy (rida34):

Can someone explain the solution? http://edssmcr3ui.pbworks.com/f/Trig+Functions+-+Exercise+Handout+3.pdf It's the first question, 1f specifically. I know there are solutions but I don't understand the answer they gave and I would appreciate if someone could explain it. Thanks in advance

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Please, would you indicate which of these problems you have at least begun, what you know and what you believe you need to know? Prefer not to start from scratch if you've already done some of this work yourself. Thx.

OpenStudy (rida34):

@mathmale I've done all parts except for 1f, I'm only asking about question one

OpenStudy (rida34):

I don't get 1f

OpenStudy (rida34):

@mathmale

OpenStudy (mathmale):

The graph "Olivia's motion" shows that when time is zero (that is, at the beginning), her distance from the motion detector is 8. Do you see this? Look for the point (0,8).

OpenStudy (rida34):

Right I see it

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Seems to me that the closest the girl gets to the motion detector is 2 feet. The furthest is 14 feet. With this in mind, think about how to answer the rest of question 1f. The problem does not say so, but I'm assuming that both Olivia's motion and the operation of the detector begin at t=0.
