Imagine that you are a study habit expert. Your friends come to you with questions about how to improve their study habits. COLTON: I have trouble remembering information for my tests because I cram the night before. YOU: I think you should try studying ________________.

OpenStudy (osprey):

practising well before hand ...

OpenStudy (otherworldly):

with flash cards and write down all the information you can't seem to keep in your mind because when you write something down it helps more than just reading the information.

yup. do something "interactive" with what it is you're trying to learn. In my case, it's quite simple. I get things wrong so often that I have to repeat what I think I've done again and again. After I've fallen asleep a few times, things begin to "dawn on me" - I LOVE "morning mood" by Edvard Grieg from the "Peer Gynt" suite of incidental music - and then a lot of stuff becomes almost a "nervous reaction". By "nervous" I don't mean specially stress in a bad sense, more that just, like, say walking, the more you do ... if you fall over a few times then you realise what's a hazard and learn to accommodate ... A classic example of this could be in physics. If someone remotely mentions "Newton", I sort of "flash" to the equation F=ma. Although it's not exactly right, it's reasonable in a lot of situations. :) Listen to the music ... and smile, and try (difficult ?) to have fun ...

it may be worth adding that you can make all the mistakes you want before the exam or whatever it is that you're facing. If you manage to learn from those mistakes, then the chances of making them "under official pressure", so to speak, are presumably reduced ? Very amusing example is that of the film "The Sting". Henry Gandolf is due to play in an illegal poker game which features a few cheats and card sharps/sharks. Henry (Paul Newman) is practising his dexterity with cards before hand. The humour comes from the fact that he totally fumbles the card trick he was trying but says "i'll be alright when it comes to it" or some such thing. It's a very good comedy. Newman and Redford + v strong support cast.
