OpenStudy (roo777x):

Find the sin(Θ) of an angle in standard position if the terminal side passes through the point (4, -8). See link: http://prnt.sc/diigk9

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Have you considered plotting this point on a set of coordinate axes, and then drawing in the "hypotenuse," the "opposite side" and the "adjacent side?" How is the "sine" of an angle defined?

OpenStudy (roo777x):

opposite/ hypotenuse

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Right. Have you plotted the given point and drawn the triangle it defines?

OpenStudy (roo777x):

i don't know where exactly to put it

OpenStudy (mathmale):

What does "(4,-8)" mean to you?

OpenStudy (roo777x):

where the line passes on the x axis?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

(4,-8) is a POINT. Assuming that you have drawn a set of coordinate axes, locate the origin. From the origin move 4 scale divisions to the right, and then from there move 8 scale divisions down. Place a dot there to locate your point (4,-8).

OpenStudy (roo777x):

i know its a point but i guess i meant pertaining to the "terminal side " passing through it

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Plotting points is an essential skill in both Algebra and Trig. See the following diagram.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Can you locate the point where x=4 and y=0?
