OpenStudy (isabelle99):

can someone give me a real world example of a logarithmic

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Hmm well I know that the Richter Scale is a logarithmic scale. For example: If you hear about a 2.0 earthquake somewhere in the world, and another earthquake of magnitude 4.0 somewhere else, we're really talking about earthquakes of magnitude 10^2 and 10^4. (In some type of units over time, sorry I'm not familiar with this). So we're really talking about an earthquake that is 100 times more powerful than the other. That's what the simple difference of 2 means in this case.

OpenStudy (isabelle99):

oh okay
