https://postimg.org/image/uwz7bdlsj/ I understand what a conversion factor is, but I'm not understanding how to convert grams to kilograms using that conversion factor. Help?
Conversion factors are equivalencies. For example, you know that 12 inches = 1 foot. 16 ounces = 1 pound
for the grams to kilograms equivalency, 1000 grams = 1 kilogram because the prefix "kilo" means 1000
I understand that, but it says "If you read the scale in terms of grams, you can convert the mass to kilograms by multiplying by the conversion factor 1 kg/1000 g". How do I use 1 kg/1000 g with multiplication to convert the mass to kilograms? I believe the picture says 200g.
So for example if you are told to convert 1250 grams to kilograms, this is what it would look like: 1250 grams * 1 kilogram ---------- = 1250/1000 1000 grams Now you divide 1250 by 1000. The label of grams cancels out by cross-cancelling leaving you with kilograms. The answer for this is 1.25 kilograms. In other words, 1250 grams is the same thing as 1.25 kilograms
Oh thanks. Mind helping me with one more? It's related to this, but I can't understand why we're taking the steps we're taking.
