Which of the sets of ordered pairs represents a function? A = {(2, −2), (5, −5), (−2, 2), (−5, 5)} B = {(4, 2), (4, −2), (9, 3), (9, −3)}

OpenStudy (bayleejadee):

Only A Only B Both A and B Neither A nor B

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Repeated x-coordinates is baaaadd! No function! Example: These two ordered pairs would NOT make a function: (7,9) and (7,10)

OpenStudy (bayleejadee):

So, even if they're the same number but negative, does that count? like in the first set of ordered pairs?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Negative means it's a completely different number :) This set of ordered pairs can make a function, yes: (3,4) and (-3,5)

OpenStudy (bayleejadee):

So it would be only A, correct? (:

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Yayyy good job \c:/

OpenStudy (bayleejadee):

Thank you for your help!
