Do you guys think closing OS is wrong? Why or why not? Do you guys think it was wrong of Brainly to USE OS? Why or why not? What are your thoughts on this? And by the way, I might just give out a medal to somebody!
Here's my thoughts on OS Closure: When I first joined OpenStudy, which was not long ago, (that explains why I am still yellow, haha) I remember seeing this website being its own thing. Nobody came to disrupt it. It was beautiful just the way it was. But then I saw Brainly come along. Brainly and OpenStudy were smushed together, into OpenBrainly, and not too long after this update was applied I realized somebody was using OS to get more users onto Brainly, and they tried to keep it "on the low". Now remember, I still have that screenshot. Why did they think it was okay to do this? Why would they want to get more users onto Brainly? Don't they have enough? Just why? I have so many questions and would love to ask them all right now. But anyway, at least we have until January 31st to make the most of what we've got left of OpenStudy. Finally, this is the end. I love you all! R.I.P. OpenStudy... and @Preetha! <3
I'm really sad to see this site go but it was probably already in the making far in advance. I just signed up for brainly and I'll give it a shot.
:)
I'd hate to lose my OpenStudy! But I signed up on Brainly a year ago (maybe a little over that time) https://brainly.com/profile/Korianna-680309/
it's sad because I was nominated to mod too...
Yeah, I was really trying to get the Ambassador status since forever!
i'm wondering if they are going to take some of the features from OS and incorporate them into brainly..
the premise behind this site was what made it great. The fact that you needed to explain rather than just provide the answer. a-lot of the helpers on here are just phenomenal.
Yeah..
My thoughts: In response to your question, "Why did they think it was okay to do this?" When it comes to business, morals tend to be disregarded. For them, it wasn't a matter of whether it was "okay" to close OpenStudy down, but rather, a matter of profit. The important question to them was, "Is it worth our resources to keep OpenStudy online? How much profit will we make if we keep the website up?" Apparently their answer was no. OpenStudy was not making enough profit, so they've decided to shut it down. Remember: When Brainly took over, both the Owlbucks and Subscriber features were down, so OpenStudy wasn't gaining any revenue from either of those. Whether those at Brainly took this into consideration or not, I'm not sure. Now, in response to your next question, "Why would they want to get more users onto Brainly? Don't they have enough?" Brainly gains millions of dollars in revenue from Brainly.com. Since Brainly is all about giving answers with explanations, more students (usually middle school and high school) tend to go there to cheat on their homework, since that's actually allowed there. The kids know that they'll get an answer there, so they have a larger userbase than OpenStudy has, though they have fewer loyal users in comparison to OpenStudy (in my opinion, can't prove this as fact). Also consider that OpenStudy need a lot of updating, which can get to be quite costly. Brainly could use some updating, but OpenStudy needs quite a bit more. OpenStudy's code was written in a programming language that very few know (so I've heard) which makes it even more difficult and costly to update things/fix things here. In Brainly's eyes, it's less costly to just bring the userbase from OpenStudy over to Brainly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- However, I would still like to add that (if anyone from Brainly ever reads this comment) there are still many people from here who would be willing to make donations, there have been other generous offers as well. New features could be implemented that would bring in more revenue. It just takes a bit of creativity, but it can be done. Knowledge, in my opinion, should not be considered as anything less than money- in other words, knowledge is worth the costs. Many users continue using OpenStudy because here, we have actual Professors in the subjects that voluntarily tutor, and help the students to really understand the material. That, to me, is worth paying a little extra. Again, features could be implemented that would bring in more revenue as well. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here. This is just my input.
@irrati0nal That's very interesting.. yes, I've read it all. :P
In the end, it's really just greed. It's okay, karma will pay them too.
Closing OS will give life to many so i think brainly has done something appreciable
What do you mean @*Poker-Face*?
Poker Face must work for Brainly to be saying those things
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I feelz like they're pulling a prank on us =/ >.<
I came to get a medal from una lol jk. OBVIOUSLY IT WAS VERY WRONG FOR BRAINLY TO DO THIS!! THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. I WONDEE HOW THRY WOULD FEEL IF SOMEONE DID THD TO THEM!!! (Almost turns super but calms down). (Pant Pant) So yea 😁
Omg 😂😂😂😂
@Miracrown Same ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)
My thoughts: It is what it is, we'll need to move on. It's sad but there's nothing we can do. We can CHOOSE to go to brainly or we can CHOOSE to boycott it. It's your choice.
Closing OS is like your favourite chocolate bar company gets closed! BUTTT you'll find hundreds of more chocolate bars similar to your fav or maybe better! So don't regret and cheer up!! I said that closing os is gud cuz chocolate bars aren't good for teeth (;
LOL xD
bamboozled @Miracrown

@Unavailabilityy Your post at the top is very moving. I'm a newcomer here. I'll try to put my "idea"(s?) simply. If I am out and about, say on a bus going into town, and somehow or other I get into a chat about something which isn't usually talked about - eg science, maths etc - then I'll try to engage in the chat. More fun than staring out of the window at the traffic jam, methinks. So, I've paid my bus fare, and I'm having a chat about something, and maybe my "companion" and I are learning something. What PRICE that ? Well to me it is priceLESS. It is BEYOND value, it is INVALUABLE. I, though, am one in several thousand billion people. Of course, the joke of all of these shenanigans is that the "skills gap" stands to get wider if things are made more difficult for knowledge, expertise etc to be transferred. I wonder what Sr Tim Berners-Lee (something to do with the internet) would make of this lot.
I'm also reminded, from vague memory (what !?) of a TV programme featuring Professor Lisa Meitner and Professor Niels Bohr, Nobel. The era is 1939-1945. The mood of the times is fear. Pr Meitner has found a way out of Germany to meet Pr Bohr to "have a chat" about radiochemistry and, ultimately, the splitting of the nucleus, also known as nuclear fission. I guess that their conversations came at a very high price. Jewish Pr Meitner's life being at stake being possibly one of them. In the same era/period, Pr Meitner's co worker, Pr Otto Hahn was awarded the Nobel prize for chemistry, as in radio chemistry, for working out (as Pr Meitner seems to have done) that their experiment fissioned a nucleus. Pr Meitner, in the TV programme, also cites Pr Einstein (that's Albert and Mileva-Maric) to invoke/invent the idea of "mass defect" to explain her results (hers "and" Hahn's, perhaps). So, what price history ?
One website shuts down 10 others starts an opening party. No big deal, the world is moving. Nicht übertreiben XD. Sie Kerle finden eine andere Gemeinschaft.
Most of the people have already forgotten about os
