help please
@Hero
@Yinshy
well first what do you think???
process of elimination!
@princeevee what is the probability that a student chosen plays violin?
@princeevee, are you still here?
yeah, and 5
@princeevee, the answer to the question I asked must be in the form of a fraction.
4/15
Very good. And what is the probability that a student chosen plays the piano?
6/15
Awesome. So to find the probability that the student chosen plays the piano or the violin, simply add the fractions together and then reduce the fraction if necessary. Let us know what you get afterwards @princeevee
0.666
or 6/10
Interesting. I'm curious, did you add the fractions by hand or did you use a calculator? How did you end up with 0.6666? Do you know how to add fractions by hand?
Are you not able to add this by hand? |dw:1492649182371:dw|
10/15 or 10/30 if were adding the denominator
The rule for adding fractions is |dw:1492649471901:dw|
In other words, "Add the numerators, keep the denominator".
So @princeevee , how about it? What did you get as the correct result of your addition?
11/15?
Explain how you got 11. Did you add the numerators? The only reason why I posted the rule above is because you posted two answers initially. I did not say both were incorrect, but surely you must know that both answers could not be correct. At this point though, you're guessing. Simply use the rule and provide one correct result. Avoid resorting to posting answer choices.
closest to 10? i guess?
@princeevee I'm only looking for a fractional result of your addition. All I've simply asked you to do thus far is post the sum of 4/15 + 6/15.
You posted the correct result of the addition earlier which is 10/15. We do not add the denominators. What we look to do before we add the fractions is make sure the denominators are the same. The addition rule for fractions implies this. The next step is to reduce 10/15.
@princeevee do you know how to reduce the fraction 10/15?
so its either 3 or 5 as the denominator, so either c or d?
i swear if its what i told you what it was Hero im a go crazy
So to reduce the fraction, you must first break down the fraction to its prime factors then eliminate factors of one. Allow me to demonstrate. For example:|dw:1492651171081:dw|
how did 10/15 turn into 12/16?
@Yinshy because you're not paying attention to what I posted.
It's an EXAMPLE of how to reduce a fraction
your right i just got here so you know
oh i thought that was the answer
geez
next time put EX: and then the example...
nvm you did
...
@princeevee I recommend that you go to http://www.ck12.org and drill yourself on adding and reducing fractions.
wait, so its C?
I really do not like multiple choice questions.
@yinshy, cease
:|
can i give an explanation?
Yes
ok
ima draw and do not delete it i swear
But it should be correct and no, you're not allowed to say things like "It's not C". That's akin to giving answers.
ok so if you simple fie
whats a number that can go into 10???
lowest number
2 right?
What kind of explanation is this? One that doesn't use the same numbers as the problem itself hopefully.
oh you want me to just give another example?
in that case im out because you already gave him an example
what about B?
ok ok ok try an simple fie 10 over 15
|dw:1492652655297:dw|
@princeevee is going to guess the entire alphabet
yeah i know and i aint going to be able to say a darn thing because he wont just work out some thing so simple
seems like D now
ima die soon
@princeevee whatever answer you choose, you have to be able to explain how you came up with that result.
10 /5 = 2 15 / 5 = 3
@Hero is that even really a explanation?
@Yinshy why are you arguing?
how am i?
so am i right?
You guessed all the answer choices. It's equivalent to marking A, B, C, & D as correct and asking "am I right?".
so you arent gonna give me the answer? i even explained why i think it was D
If you're going to choose D, you should be able to justify why A, B, and C are not correct.
why the heck to i need to do that?
Well, it's not punishment for guessing all four answer choices if that's what you're asking.
can you just say if i got it right? we've been on for hours
Can you try reducing 10/15 once more? Try using the method I posted above.
i got D again :/ 2/3
Correct.
The moral of the story is, avoid guessing on multiple choice questions.
i have 3 more questions......
and ok
