In my opinion, Antony made a better appeal to ethics, as he stated "The evil that men do lives after them". Antony used very persuasive words, and not only appealed to the moral, but to the people as well, for they grieved for their fallen leader. "My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
And I must pause till it come back to me" However, Brutus swayed the crowd using his own reputation, "believe me for mine honour, and have respect to mine honour, that you may believe: censure me in your wisdom, and awake your senses, that you may the better judge." Brutus also states the following: "If there be any in this assembly, any dear friend of Caesar’s, to him I say, that Brutus’ love to Caesar was no less than his. If then that friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer: – Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more." Claiming that he did it for the good of all Rome, yet he slew him for his ambitions. Ambitions are not a bad thing, they often lead to something bigger. Aside from all this, Brutus slew Caesar, a crime in itself, whether for the good or the bad, thus Antony had the crowd on this alone.
