During prophase 1, Crossing over takes place as the Centrioles separate and the spindle fibers are formed, and as the nuclear envelope starts to disappear, the chromosomes start to become visible.

JustSaiyan:

During Metaphase 1, The homologous chromosomes line up in the center of the cell, where the spindle fibers that were formed in Prophase 1 attach onto the homologous chromosomes
