Questions for Virtual School/Homeschooled Students
I am a traditionally schooled student so I am very curious about how you guys learn
1. How is the material presented to you? What are the online videos/lectures like? 2. What is the reading material like? Are you assigned textbooks? 3. How many hours a day do you spend on school-related activities? 4. How available are teachers/tutors? Are they responsive to student questions? 5. What kind of interaction do you have with other students? Are there group projects?
@Ultrilliam @ThisGirlPretty whenever you have spare time, this isn't urgent ^^
I go to a k12 environment. It's powered by d2l (https://www.d2l.com/) In order to get taught stuff, I go to a live session with other students and teachers through a program called Blackboard Collaborate or BBC. we can draw, screenshare, and various other things. We get assigned textbooks, that we can access online, and depending on your teacher you may have to go to a library and get books as well. I spend about 1 hour if I actually do my school activities (excluding classes, of which there is about 4-6 hours a day) However school starts at 7am, and closes at 4pm, but you can still do everything online. Teachers are EXTREMELY responsive, like its way better to be going to a online school if you need additional help, as in a public school its difficult to get often times, however in a online school most times you can send a email to the teacher and they will setup a BBC session for you to go over the material with them, and they will tutor you on whatever you don't understand (Unless you get the rare crappy teacher, like my chem teacher last year) As answered in question 1, we are in a class with other students in a online envirement, so we can talk to them, get their contact information and meet up outside of school ETC ETC. depending on your teacher you may have group projects. It's honestly dependent on your teacher with k12, as the entire course revolves around them, the teacher gets to make their own class, within the rules and regulations.
Flvs is easy and takes little time of my day 1. Its presented very easily and nice with a lot of resources and lessons. 2.The lessons always give you correct info that you will use on later tests (No textbooks assigned thank god) 3. Probaly about an hour or two if that (Im not behind either X'D) 4. Teachers are very nice and answer alot of your questions but they dont really "help" you one on one they just sorta point you to the right material. 5. Neh Just a collab that you can complete by using Blackboard collab So overall interaction with other students is mininum
Wow its cool seeing another person in k12 ! @ultrilliam anyways 1. in k12 our online class connects are pretty cool! while the teacher is talking we can raise our hand, interrupt and more, we also have live one on one sessions to help us more. At the begging in of the school year they will send you shipments like a pc, printer,text- books , material's (depends on your grade lvl like in middle school they get better stuff) 2. Like what i mentions earlier yes we are assigned books depends on your courses though. 3. I wake up at 8:00 because of class connects they are scheduled classes you have to attend (some are required some are optional, keep in mind this is all via online) I do my lessons work , quizzes etc, all till 1:00, then i have a break and continue till 3:00. (not alot of student's take as much hours as me, its because im in 3 honor classes so i get fairly much work. 4. I have a teacher for each course just like in a public school. you can send them emails to which they respond fairly quickly too. Or you can schedule a one on one meetup with them. 5. In our class connects there is actually a commenting section below which is a cool way you can interact with your classmates OH! and did i mention you can even talk to the class if your teacher enables your microphone. Class connects are cool your teacher has a board where she can do alot of stuff. even a polling tool! she will record the class connect for students who are absent. more info
There are field trips assigned every month (i think) where you can meetup with your teachers and you classmates, we also have clubs. k12 likes to consider them self a "brick and mortar school" AKA public school. they have report cards , progress reports. AND you even have to do DAILY ATTENDANCE ! where you go to the parents account and check off how many hours your child spent on school work. by now you can see how much of an amazing school this is !
Adding on to what she said in "more info" Yes k12 schools often setup various events, sometimes once a week depending on the month and the holidays in it. Many students also don't take as long as I do, however I'm in ALL honors classes, and dual enrolled into college classes at the same time.
@Ultrilliam wow your going place's ! all honors and colleges classes! im already having a hard time in my 3 honors lol
My school also prides itself in helping students get the money they need for a project if it can be successful, they offer endless opportunities for scholarships, and to add to it, I could get a bachelors degree right after I finished highschool
Your not in Alabama right ?

oh cool !
More specifically Las Vegas
im in like literally the most boring state ever !
dang ur lucky
everything is extreme level 99 where i go they basically make you study whole day
I'm in flvs ^_^ The teachers are very nice and everything *-* the information is in the live lessons, we have to do long projects and everything but the worse part about homeschool is socializing I'll answer your questions when I get on me computer *-*
1: The material/videos are presented in the lesson and are great for taking notes for tests and stuff. They give you a lot of information, but sometimes they ask you things that aren't in the lesson. 2: We don't get textbooks XD just information/video and sometimes projects in the lesson 3: Not that much for me really o.o if its projects and stuff it'll take a little longer because of researching, putting it into your own words and getting the site sources :P 4: The teachers are available and very encouraging *-* They'll call you if you dont submit at least 3 into them by the end of the week. 5: We have life lessons they're really fun XD but yeah (goodluck to Ultrilliam with his honors class) My brother takes honor class
