Allison:

Okay today we're learning about grammar and how to use it properly. Most of you misspell and use the wrong words so I'm here to help. (: Your & You're Your ~ It means something that belongs to you. Examples: Your hair looks pretty today. Is that your sister? You're ~ It’s short for "you are". Examples: You're not going out this late. She said you're doing an art project. Were & We’re & Where Were ~ Second person singular past, plural past, and past subjunctive of be. Examples: Were you just over there? He said you were coming to visit. We’re ~ It's short for "we are". Examples: We’re not going to the movies tonight, maybe tomorrow. Dad said we’re having pizza tonight! Where ~ A place. Examples: Where are you at? Where did you leave the eggs? To & Too To ~ In the direction of; directed toward, facing, into, through, toward. Examples: I went to the store. We got to go hiking for the first time! Too ~ In addition; also. Examples: I got too many friend requests! But I gave her chocolate, too. Who’s & Whose & Whom Who’s ~ Short for “who is”. Examples: Who’s going to the party tonight? Who’s that? Whose ~ Belonging to or associated with which person. Examples: Whose clothes are those? Jay doesn’t care whose feelings he hurts. Whom ~ Instead of “who” but directed at an object or person. Examples: Whom is that woman chasing? From whom did you get my number? Then & Than Then ~ After that; next; afterward. (Can also mean at the time) Examples: I went to the store, then to the mall. Back then, I had no interest in drawing. Than ~ Introducing the second element in a comparison. Examples: I like his sister more than him. Eating apples is healthier than eating chocolate. Its & It’s Its ~ Belonging to or associated with a thing previously mentioned or easily identified. Examples: The dog lost its bone. The school needs to update its event papers. It’s ~ Short for “it is”. Examples: It’s a wonderful morning! Give it back, it’s mine!

Here I am, 7 months later, new grammar rules to be added! (: More mistakes get made every day by some of the users here, and I hope this helps more than the previous did. Affect & Effect Affect ~ Make a difference to. Examples: Did that speech affect your emotions? Your poor grammar affects your credibility. Effect ~ A change that is a result, or consequence due to an action or so. Examples: The terrible accident had a profound effect on him. I hope this post has a good effect on your grammar. Lose & Loose Lose ~ Being unable to find someone or something; cease to have or retain. Examples: If I don't get there in time, I will lose my friend. My ankle hurts, I might lose the soccer game tonight. Loose ~ Not firm or tight; release. Examples: The screw on the wall was loose. After I lost some weight, my pants were loose.
